Val Veny

One of Courmayeur Mont Blanc’s side valleys is the magnificent, wild Val Veny, that directly faces Mont Blanc and the highest and most fascinating peaks in the Alps. It’s a starting point for walks and hikes either in the valley or at high altitude and for the Tour du Mont Blanc.

Essential walks are those to Lake Miage, the Peuterey woods or up to the Col de the Seigne which marks the border between Italy and France and lies in the shadow of the Pyramides Calcaires.

Another famous attraction is the sanctuary of Notre Dame de la Guérison, a much-loved sacred place, popular in summer with the religious and mountaineers as well as place of prayer of Papa Wojtyla, John Paul II.

In winter, many of the ski pistes are on this side of the mountain making the Val Veny the heart of Courmayeur’s skiing area, while its woods and rocky gullies, so pleasant during the summer, become the ground for huge numbers of passionate freeriders.
